What never leaves your device

The video you import never leaves your phone. The render that burns captions into your clip runs locally with Apple AVFoundation.

What we send to our servers

Only the audio track of the clip you pick is uploaded, and only for as long as it takes to transcribe it.

• Our transcription provider is Groq (groq.com). When we call Groq from our servers, audio is not retained for model training.
• The audio is processed in memory on our side, never written to disk, and discarded as soon as the transcript comes back.

What we collect

• Anonymous diagnostics: crash logs, app version, iOS version, and basic usage events such as import_started, transcribe_done, and export_done, with the clip duration and the caption style you chose. These let us fix bugs and tune the product.
• We do not collect device identifiers tied to you, location, contacts, your Photos library, your Apple ID, your name, or any other personal data.
• No account is required. SmartCaps does not ask you to sign up.

Subscription data

If you purchase SmartCaps Pro, the transaction is handled entirely by Apple via the App Store. We receive Apple's purchase receipt only to verify your subscription on this device. We do not see your Apple ID, your name, or your payment details.

Photos access

SmartCaps asks for add-only Photos access when you tap "Save to Photos" on a finished video. We use that permission once, to add the MP4 you just rendered. We never read your Photos library.

Children

SmartCaps is not directed at children under 13.

Your rights

You can delete all on-device and server-side SmartCaps data at any time from Settings → Delete my data. The "free-video used" flag is preserved so the free tier can't be abused; everything else is wiped.
